How to Use Google Disavow Links Tool?

Google kept on changing its algorithm to provide users with a better search tool. In an attempt to improve its search algorithm, it has been continuously penalizing websites that do not comply with its guidelines. However, there are some errors in the algorithm which lead to penalizing sites with spam backlinks which aren’t in the control of the webmaster.

To rescue such blog owners, Google has created its own Disavow Link tool wherein webmasters or blog owners can appeal for reconsideration by submitting the list of spam links pointed to your site (list of spam site URLs where your site is linked).

As per Google “If you’ve done as much work as you can to remove spammy or low-quality links from the web, and are unable to make further progress on getting the links taken down, you can disavow the remaining links. In other words, you can ask Google not to take certain links into account when assessing your site.”

How to Make Use of the Google Disavow Link Feature?

  1. Login to your Google Webmaster Tools account and then choose the website that is penalized.
  2. From the left side menu, click on Traffic > Links to your site > More.
  3. Click “Download this Table” to download the list of URLs or sites that are linking to your site.
Find the Backlinks to a Website
  4. From the list, select the URLs that you think are spammy. Compose a text file (notepad) and insert the spam site URLs that linked to you one link/line.

Note: If you think a complete website is having spam links pointing to your site, then simply use its main domain instead of internal post URLs. Ex:

  5. Save the text file to something like disavowlist.txt
  6. Now, go to the Disvow Links tool and choose the website you wish to appeal from the drop-down list and then click “Diavow Links”.

  7. On the next, click on “Disavow links” again and from the pop-up menu, attach the file with the list of spam links (Step 6).
  8. Click on Upload and Submit.

That’s it! You’ve successfully submitted a request to Google to ignore spam links that point to your site. All you’ve to do next is to wait up to 1-2 weeks for Google to re-index your website. You can check the status of your site crawl rate from Health > Crawl Stats.

Note: Disavow Links is an advanced feature and should only be used with caution. If used incorrectly, this feature can potentially harm your site’s performance in Google’s search results. We recommend that you only disavow backlinks if you believe you have a considerable number of spammy, artificial, or low-quality links pointing to your site, and if you are confident that the links are causing issues for you.

(like which kind of keywords you are using for the above post).

and second thing is where to promote the blog to get maximum benefit well i guess to promote a blog on forums, social bookmarking and blog directories sites but what do you think.

    1. Hi gaurav, first of all I don’t generally target a single keyword. I try to use combination of keywords and split it across the entire article. This helps me to target for long-tail keywords. So, I think you got the point. Try to use synonyms and keyword combinations across your post.

And coming to the blog promotions, I mainly focus on dofollow blog commenting, guest posting on sites in my niche and social media. I give less preference to bookmarking and directory submissions. Finally, try to increase your social votes. All the best. Do reply if you’ve any more doubts.

  2. thanks for reply RK,

i think the links we are getting from commenting on dofollow blogs can increase only PR but not help to rank better. guest posting is good to get links on keywords.
but why don’t you give priority to bookmarking, press release, forums and blog directory submissions, i think they can drive much traffic then any other source i mean this process can make your blog gental in search engines eyes.

i have one more question that like if you more than 1000 posts then will you promote your all posts continuously.

    1. These days directory submissions and bookmarkings are given less priority. If you’ve more than 1000 posts, there is no need to promote all the posts. I try to promote the posts that are getting least visits. Hope that helps.

  3. Google Disavow Links Tool is really helpful for bulk submitter. Many companies are using different SEO tools and software for bulk SEO submission. Google disavow tool through they can easily and quickly remove low quality backlinks.

    1. PageRank not only depends on the no:of backlinks but also your internal page structure..In my case, I’ve made all my internal posts index, follow to get the pagerank flow through those..however, if you want high PR to just your homepage, then limit this condition.. Simply, use index, nofollow for your unwanted internal posts…This will help to some extent to pass more PR juice to your homepage..Hope you understood the concept..all the best..
