How to Delete Old or Unused WordPress Core Files?
WordPress, being an open-source CMS, needs regular maintenance and so developers try to release new WordPress versions to remove any security threats on a regular basis. However, there are some functions/files that become useless after the new version is updated but they still reside in our hosting server. These old WordPress core files can easily be targeted by hackers to fetch into our server. So, the best thing to do once whenever you’ve upgraded to the new version is to delete the old core files.
Don’t worry! I’ll tell you exactly how to delete the unused WordPress core files.
- First of all, install the ‘Old Core Files’ plugin and activate it.
- Go to Tools > Old Core Files and you’ll notice the list of all the WordPress core files that are not used anymore by your newly updated version.
As of now, the plugin only lists the files and doesn’t provide any link to delete them. So, you should delete them manually through either FTP software or File Manager from your cPanel, as by now you know what files to delete.
