How to Add Meta Tags for Every Post in Blogger Blog?

Adding different or unique meta tags for every post will make your blogger blog perform better in the search engines. WordPress blogs have got some plugins that will provide the option to add unique meta descriptions to each and every post. But, this is not the case with Blogger until now. Just recently, Blogger has introduced the option of adding meta description tags in all the blogger posts.

Benefits of Adding Meta Description Tags for a Blog

Google will use this meta description as a snippet while displaying our website or blog in the search engine result pages just below the title. In technical terms, a meta description tag tells Google what your page is actually about.

Hence, adding different meta description tags will help in optimizing your blog for Search Engines.

How to Add Meta Tags to Each and Every Blog Posts in Blogger?

  1. Go to draft.blogger.com using your blogger account.
  2. Then Go to Settings > Search Preferences.
  3. Chose option “Yes” under “Enable search description” and enter the meta description for your homepage.

  4. Save Changes. By doing so, meta description option will be enabled for all your internal blogger posts.

    Note: This setting won’t work mostly in custom blogger templates and so we’ll have to insert some code to enable it. Go to Template > Edit HTML > Proceed and copy the below lines of code and paste it just below the <head> tag.

    <b:if cond=’data:blog.metaDescription != &quot;&quot;’>
    <meta expr:content=’data:blog.metaDescription’ name=’description’/>
    </b:if>

  5. Save your blogger template.
  6. Now, you can add meta description for every blog post. You’ll find a new option In the post editor for “Search Description”.

    Tip: Limit your description to 150 characters or 15 keyword phrases for better indexing.

    • Hi, you don’t have to add keywords meta tag as it’ll have no impact on search rankings, however if you still want to add, simply add the below code under <title></title> tag in your template.

      <meta name='keywords' description='keyword1,keyword2,keyword3…'/>

  4. This is really a cool feature for Blogger launched by Google. I don’t have any idea why this feature not included in the Blogger platform previously. BTW, it saves most of the time to create descriptions by using Blogger HTML code source.

  5. nice one i have add all the above steps than i had checked in richsnippets . instend of showing give search description . google randamly selecting search description from post . How to avoid this . i had tried many template . can you help me in this matter

    • Although you’re using the meta tags in your blog, Google most of time displays relevant information (picked from your own blog) in the SERps. This isn’t bad at all and it will have no impact (harm) on your search rankings..

  6. How to do it automatically?? I want to apply this to thousands of my previous post.
    What I want it to appear:

    I’ve try this but not work.. 🙁

    Any clue? 😀

    • There is no automation to this process at this point of time…but I hope Blogger team will introduce the import/export feature to add multiple meta tags at once in the coming days..So, right now…manually doing it is the only way..
